Who we need

Reporting to the Director of New Program Development, we are seeking Course Developers to design and develop new courses in the broader fields of public policy and administration. As our new Course Developer you will create new, academically rigorous, and professionally grounded offerings that reflect the realities, structures, and evolving policies of the Canadian public sector. You will combine academic depth with applied expertise to create high-quality, research-informed, and industry-relevant learning experiences.

This is a remote (within Canada) part-time contract role.

What’s in it for you

Impact and innovation. This is an opportunity to contribute to a new, forward-looking academic initiative that connects research, policy, and practice in the Canadian context. You will help lay the foundation for an online and asynchronous program that broadens access to education while maintaining academic excellence. You will play a key role in shaping the next generation of leaders in Canadian public administration.

Collaboration and future opportunity. You will join an innovative, multidisciplinary team committed to advancing applied scholarship and designing relevant, accessible, and meaningful learning experiences. This engagement opens the door to future teaching and academic leadership opportunities at Yorkville University as the program evolves.

As our new Course Developer, you will:

  • Collaborate. You will work alongside academic leadership, subject matter experts, and the Learning Design team to create courses that reflect the complexities and professional realities of Canadian public policy, governance, economics, and administration. You will ensure that all content aligns with Yorkville University’s Student Learning Outcomes, accreditation standards, and regulatory expectations.
  • Design. You will conceptualize, structure, and write engaging course content that integrates scholarship, applied research, and emerging developments in Canadian governance, policy, and public service. You will balance academic rigour with practical relevance, creating materials that prepare learners to navigate real-world challenges.
  • Integrate. You will incorporate current policy discourse, government practices, and professional standards into course materials, embedding authentic Canadian case studies, frameworks, and codes of ethics to strengthen professional alignment.
  • Evaluate and refine. You will assess course effectiveness through stakeholder feedback, data analysis, and scholarly review. You will update and enhance content to ensure continued relevance to evolving government structures, policy frameworks, and academic standards.
  • Engage. You will maintain active communication with faculty, project stakeholders, and institutional partners throughout the development process, ensuring cohesion, timeliness, and quality of the project.
  • Advance learning excellence. You will stay informed about current pedagogical research, emerging instructional technologies, and best practices in online course delivery, enabling you to continually enhance the learning experience.

You have:

  • The academic foundation. You hold a terminal degree (PhD or equivalent) with a specialization directly connected to the Canadian public sector, such as Public Administration, Public Policy and Governance, Political Science, or Economics.
  • The Canadian expertise. You bring professional and research experience within Canada’s public sector, ideally including work with federal, provincial, or municipal governments in areas such as economic policy, public management, or intergovernmental relations. You have the contextual understanding necessary to reflect Canadian regulatory environments, policy processes, and administrative practices with precision and authenticity.
  • The industry expertise. You have contributed research, analysis, or scholarship in Canadian public administration or related policy fields, including peer-reviewed publications within the last five years. You understand how to translate complex policy and administrative systems into clear, engaging, and academically sound course materials.
  • The teaching and research experience. You have demonstrated success in course design or instruction within post-secondary environments and can integrate applied or academic research into curriculum development. You are skilled in designing for diverse learners across online, blended, and in-person formats.
  • The collaboration and communication skills. You are an articulate communicator with exceptional written and editorial ability. You can work effectively across academic and administrative functions, build trust with institutional stakeholders, and maintain high professional standards. You bring strong organizational, administrative, and project management skills to manage deliverables, milestones, and feedback loops.
  • The technical proficiency. You are highly competent with educational technologies, online learning management systems, and digital authoring tools, supported by proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Additional details:

This is a remote, part-time, contract-based role, based in Canada. Course development typically spans four to six months, beginning early in the new year. These are independent courses within a broader field of study, offering opportunities for continued engagement in subsequent development or teaching roles.
