We are committed to delivering rigorous, flexible programs that are both personally fulfilling and professionally rewarding, while contributing to the betterment of society. Since 2004, Yorkville has been among Canada’s few private, for-profit, fully accredited degree-granting universities, with campuses in Ontario, British Columbia, and New Brunswick. Together with Toronto Film School, we offer creative and academic pathways at both the college and university levels, cultivating a multidisciplinary environment where innovation and the arts converge.

Our community is vibrant and diverse. Many of our learners are adults balancing education with careers and personal commitments. Every member of our team – whether in teaching, operations, or technology – is dedicated to removing barriers and expanding access. Together, we deliver flexible, industry-informed learning that leads to meaningful opportunities.

At our core is human connection – guiding people to reimagine their futures in a community defined by opportunity, creativity, and growth.

Who we need

Reporting to the Director, Student Services we are hiring a Manager, Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities. You will oversee the university’s student conduct, rights, and behavioural-intervention processes with an emphasis on student safety, community standards, and risk management. As Manager, you will guide the work of three Student Liaison Officers, providing case and workflow management.

As our new Manager, Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities, you will play a central part in ensuring procedural fairness while actively participating in risk assessment and behavioural intervention through the Behavioural Intervention Team (BIT). You will be accountable for applying trauma-informed, equity-based, and restorative justice approaches to student conduct and safety issues, balancing institutional accountability with student care.

This is an existing full-time role, working 1 day remotely and 4 days on-site based in Ontario, and split between our Steeles Campus and Bloor Street campuses until late Fall 2026, when all onsite work will transition to our new facilities downtown on Bloor Street.

What’s in it for you

Impact and influence. This is a highly collaborative role with meaningful institutional visibility. You will contribute to policy development, provide guidance on complex situations, and help ensure the university’s approach to conduct and safety reflects best practices, legal requirements, and institutional values. By balancing accountability with advocacy, you will help ensure student voices are heard and that decisions support both community standards and individual wellbeing.

Autonomy and exposure. Yorkville University operates nationally, providing the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues across campuses and programs while gaining exposure to a diverse range of student needs and experiences. The department is evolving, creating a rare opportunity to help build and refine how student conduct and behavioural intervention operate across the university. You’ll step into a role with the opportunity to improve workflows, strengthen policies, and introduce ideas that make the function more effective and responsive.

Career development. The scope of the role encompasses policy development, team leadership, case oversight, and institutional collaboration, offering rich professional experience for someone seeking to deepen their expertise in student conduct, risk assessment, and higher education leadership. You will join a supportive and high-performing team that values initiative, collaboration, and thoughtful decision-making. If you thrive in a fast-paced, responsive environment where your leadership and ideas can shape meaningful improvements, you will find strong support, recognition, and opportunities for continued growth here.

How you will make an impact:

  • Lead and support the conduct and intervention team. You will supervise and support a team of Officers, including training, case assignment, coaching, performance management, and workload planning. You will ensure the consistent application of conduct procedures, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and student support standards across the team. You will cultivate a collaborative, student-focused team culture grounded in accountability, professionalism, and care.
  • Oversee the conduct of investigations and the enforcement of policies. You will receive, assess, and investigate reports of alleged policy violations, including incidents involving potential harm or threats of violence. You will facilitate hearings and determine sanctions or restorative justice outcomes while ensuring procedural fairness, equity, and transparency. You will manage compliance with disciplinary outcomes, behavioural contracts, and intervention plans, ensuring appropriate follow-up and review.
  • Lead behavioural intervention and violence risk assessment. You will help develop a Behavioural Intervention Team (BIT) and serve as a core member, coordinating the institution’s response to students presenting behavioural concerns or risk factors for violence. You will conduct violence risk assessments in collaboration with campus security, counselling services, and other stakeholders, evaluating potential threats to the student, others, or the broader community. You will develop and implement intervention plans, care plans, safety plans, and behavioural contracts designed to mitigate risk while supporting student wellbeing. You will monitor progress, adjust interventions in consultation with BIT partners, and respond to urgent or crisis situations involving severe risk.
  • Strengthen policies, procedures, and institutional standards. You will lead the review, development, and ongoing improvement of student conduct and behavioural-intervention policies. You will develop and maintain SOPs for conducting investigations, violence risk assessments, record keeping, and case management workflows. You will conduct policy audits, analyze emerging trends, and recommend updates that reflect best practices, legal requirements, and institutional priorities.
  • Deliver prevention, education, and community engagement initiatives. You will design and deliver workshops, training sessions, and awareness campaigns for students, staff, and faculty on topics including community standards, behavioural expectations, violence prevention, conflict resolution, restorative justice, and equity and inclusion. You will provide consultation and guidance to faculty, staff, and student leaders on managing behavioural concerns, identifying warning signs, and referring students to appropriate supports or intervention teams. Through this work, you will promote a campus culture grounded in respect, safety, and shared accountability.
  • Manage data, reporting, and case documentation. You will maintain confidential records of conduct cases, risk assessments, behavioural interventions, and follow-up activities in compliance with Canadian privacy legislation and institutional policies. You will collect and analyze data related to behavioural incidents, interventions, and outcomes, identifying trends and systemic concerns. You will prepare reports for senior leadership with insights and recommendations to strengthen policies, procedures, and institutional practices.
  • Collaborate across the institution to support student safety and wellbeing. You will build strong partnerships with counselling and mental health services, campus security, academic departments, disability and accommodation services, and other internal stakeholders. You will participate in cross-campus committees and working groups focused on student safety, violence prevention, risk mitigation, and community wellbeing.

What you bring:

  • The academic and professional foundation. You hold a Bachelor’s degree; a Master’s degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Law, Social Work, or a related field is strongly preferred. You bring experience in student conduct, behavioural intervention, or violence risk assessment within a post-secondary environment, including interpreting and applying institutional Codes of Conduct and behavioural policies with a strong understanding of the human rights codes. Certification or training in threat assessment, restorative justice, mediation, or related disciplines is considered an asset.
  • The student conduct and violence risk assessment knowledge. You have experience managing high-risk, complex, or sensitive student cases involving behavioural concerns, harassment, sexual or gender-based violence, or potential threats to safety. You are familiar with student conduct systems, restorative justice principles, trauma-informed care, equity and human rights frameworks, accessibility standards, and Canadian privacy legislation. You demonstrate a strong understanding of institutional compliance requirements and how conduct processes and violence risk assessment support both student safety and institutional accountability. Experience drafting, reviewing, or improving institutional conduct policies, procedures, or case-management protocols is highly valued.
  • The conduct case management and procedural expertise. You are highly organized and experienced in managing complex case workflows, prioritizing multiple concurrent investigations, and maintaining detailed documentation. You exercise sound judgment and discretion while ensuring case management practices align with institutional policies, compliance obligations, and procedural fairness.
  • The analytical and reporting ability. You are skilled at collecting and analyzing data related to conduct incidents and risk assessments. You translate trends into actionable insights that inform institutional planning, policy improvement, and proactive prevention strategies, and you prepare reports and recommendations that highlight systemic concerns and emerging behavioural trends.
  • The leadership and interpersonal skills. You influence individuals and teams with and without direct authority and build trusted relationships across academic and administrative environments. You lead through example, guidance, and knowledge sharing, and you are confident making autonomous decisions in complex or high-risk situations. You bring strong mediation, de-escalation, and conflict resolution capabilities and communicate clearly in high-stakes or emotionally complex situations, balancing empathy with accountability.
  • The commitment to equity and community wellbeing. You demonstrate a strong commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, accessibility, anti-racism, and culturally responsive practices. You apply trauma-informed and equity-based approaches when supporting students navigating conflict, crisis, or conduct processes.
